''Being able to engage with a recorded session and go on an adventure with things you have at hand, kids were excited to find accessories, utensils, toys, blanket and create characters and invent a story. Laughter and being silly helped relax and stop thinking of the depressing situation we have been locked in since March this year.

Creativity will save us all and yes being silly too.''
''It was such a fun evening finding things around the house to light up and see the shadows on the walls! We even had 'The patterned Sun' that came to visit us! xxxx and xxxx absolutely loved playing with the torches!’'

''We really enjoyed creating magic with everything you can find at home.''

Paticipatory Arts

Collaborating with other creative practitioners in planning and delivering projects
that excite, engage and inspire, I strive to create an environment
in which everybody can thrive in their creativity.

I really enjoy working with groups that are diverse in ability and background,
encouraging everybody to work together, sharing skills and ideas.

I motivate participants to explore their own ideas for themes and imagery
as well as play with and investigate the materials they are working with.

Designed and hand painted by years 3, 4 and 5, these banners encase sound absorbing foam to dampen the sound in the very echoey dining hall, transforming the space.

Energy Project

We worked with all years, creating art to enrich a large shelter in the playground. In each class, we explored a different aspect of energy through a variety of media, with the emphasis on positivity, health and fun.

Outdoor and permanent, highly decorative and tactile, we create colourful mosaics in group workshops.

Participants work directly with glass tiles and shapes, and stained glass chosen and cut specifically for each project.

They also create cast plaques, adding another tactile dimension to the workshops and final pieces.

Our workshops are exciting and engaging for all ages and abilities.

Schools

Participants  interact with this tactile medium in fun creative workshops to produce permanent outdoor decoration.
We will work with whole classes, involving them in the process from start to finish, often beginning with large scale drawing sessions using charcoal or chalk.

After completing a first degree in Fine Art in Sunderland, Di Jones moved to London and embarked on a freelance career in community and celebratory arts which took her the length and breadth of Britain. Highlights include designing and leading workshops to make a section of the huge carnival celebrating the opening of the Channel Tunnel; working with schools to create lantern installations in the National Theatre; many and varied gigs with Greenwich based Emergency Exit Arts, from comedy street performances with hand held fireworks to art sessions with parents and under 5 in Children’s Centres, to making giant Ravana effigies for the London Hindu Community and many many workshops for carnivals and lantern processions.

Di is very experienced in making giant puppets, processional images and costumes with schools and communities.

Di has a PGCE (pcet) and loves to work with people of all ages. She is currently working on her latest project: 'The Waste of Time', an ongoing participatory arts project raising awareness of single-use plastic and marine plastic pollution.

Di’s own sculpture practice, which she has returned to late in her career, informs and is influenced by her work in community and education, and she considers it integral to all her activities.
